7, 5, 3 years old children

The ceremony is held annually on November 15th. However, it is commonly practiced on the weekends close to this date.

Children who become 3, 5, and 7 years old, anytime during the current calendar year, are blessed by a Shinto priest. The priest prays for the child’s continued good health and growth. The ceremony is a celebration and is viewed as a rite of passage from early childhood into middle childhood

1. •Why 7, 5, and 3 years old?

This ceremony is based on 3 rituals, Kamioki, Hakamagi and Obitoki, which were held in ancient times.

Kamioki - 3 year-old children were allowed to grow their hair out.

Hakamagi - 5 year-old boys were allowed to change from children’s clothing to adult-style clothing (hakama).

Obitoki - 7 year-old girls were allowed to change the simple cords on their kimono to a traditional belt (obi).

Although the rituals are no longer practiced, the rite of passage is still widely accepted in Japan

1. •Please make Package Plan reservations at Imamiya Jinja shrine office, in person, at least 3 days before you would like to have the ceremony.
   

1. •We will tell the 3 above-mentioned companies about your reservation.
   

1. •Please contact each company directly about any specific details/concerns. This can be done over the phone or in person. We recommend getting assistance from a Japanese speaker.
   

1. •Finally, please note that in case of cancellation, we must charge a cancellation fee. Cancellation fees vary depending on reservation details
