There is a long shrine building which enshrines 8 shrines. Each shrine is a branch of a greater one in Japan. People can pray these smaller ones instead of traveling far distances to visit the main shrine.

8 great shrines:

  1. Daikokusha, Ebisusha, Hachimansha, Atsutasha, Sumiyoshisha,

  2. Katorisha, Kagamitsukurisha, Suwasha

 

Deity enshrined: Takuhatachijihime no mikoto

Deity of fabric and helps improve one’s skill

  1. This deity is particular to Nisijin textile. Nisijin is a fabric making area where just south of Imamiya shrine.

  2. The deity loves the beauty of this textile and helps people who work in the industry, as well as pray for their success.

Taishogunsha

Deities enshrined: Gozutenno and his 5 sons and 3 daughters

Guardian deities of Heian palace

  1. This shrine used to be in front of a gate at Daitokuji temple. It was 1 of 4 Taishogunsha and enshrined as protection for the palace.

Hassha (8 shrines)

Deities enshrined:

  1. Oyamakui no kami

  2. Omononushi no kami

Hiyoshisha

Deity enshrined: Nobunaga Oda (1532-1582)

  1. He is one of the greatest samurai in Japanese history. After he passed away, he was buried at Amida temple. And, his soul was moved and enshrined here in1987.

Odasha

Deities enshrined:

  1. Uganomitama no okami

  2. Sarutahiko no okami

Deity enshrined: Tsukiyomi no mikoto

Tsukiyomisha

Deities enshrined:

  1. Munakata three female divinities.

  2. Tagoritsuhime no mikoto

  3. Tagitsuhime no mikoto

  4. Ichikishimahime no mikoto

Deities of happiness and Safe traffic

Munakatasha

There is a rare catfish carving which is 60cm long on a shrine building’s stone foundation. According to legend, catfish are messengers of a divinity called “Benten san”.

Orihime sha

Deity’s stone ―Ahokashi-san―

Try me! Follow these easy instructions.


1.Lightly tap the stone 3 times.


2.Pick up the stone with both hands and gently put it back down.


3.Make a wish and rub the stone 3 times.


4.Pick up the stone one more time.

It is believed if the deity’s stone becomes light, then one’s wish will come true.
